How does the treatment at DR. HAGER?
Initial examination and consultation
To begin with, we invite you to come to our practice for a free and detailed consultation. We will discuss all your wishes, options and risks.
Our many years of experience combined with the possibilities of modern diagnostics ensure the best possible preliminary planning of the desired procedure. Digital 3D X-rays show the jaw conditions very precisely and form the basis for implant planning. Using our software, we can carry out joint live planning.
Finally, the system generates a fixed time and cost plan. The subsequent decision should always be made in peace at home.
3D scanning and 3D printing
The dentist first designs a deep-set crown socket. In this way, the future crown reliably stabilizes the tooth.
To ensure a bacteria-proof fit, the prepared tooth is scanned with a 3D scanner. The tooth is then provisionally covered.
The new ceramic crown without metal is now produced in Dr. Hager’s dental laboratory using the 3D data set.
Inserting a dental crown
At this final appointment, the ceramic crown is placed. Before the crown is permanently cemented, the fit is checked carefully. This includes the tooth color, the crown margin and the contacts to the adjacent teeth.
If there are any change requests, these can now be incorporated according to the desired changes. Without our own dental laboratory, a new appointment would now be necessary.
So it only takes 25 minutes and the crown can definitely be firmly inserted.

When do you need a dental crown?
A crown is mainly recommended after severe carious defects. Crowns are also used for broken teeth after accidents. Finally, all-ceramic crowns reliably create a beautiful smile in the front tooth area. A derivative of the crown is the veneer, which, however, does not stabilize the tooth.
The crown after deep caries
If a tooth can no longer be restored with a filling or an inlay due to severe damage, a crown is a high-quality, long-term solution.
It stabilizes and forms a protective cap with the aim of permanently preserving the tooth.
It can happen that the caries has already damaged the nerve. Treatment by the dentist often irritates the tooth further, but without this the tooth would be lost. If the dentist diagnoses a so-called reversible pulpitis, the tooth is first treated with medication and placed under quarantine for 3 months with a temporary cement filling. If the tooth remains healthy, further treatment with a permanent all-ceramic crown follows.
In the case of deep caries, the tooth may appear discolored, often dark brown or black.
Deep caries can cause very severe toothache, and often no pain medication will help. Affected teeth can react sensitively to hot, cold or sweet foods and drinks.
The crown for a more beautiful smile
Dental crowns can be used to create a beautiful, radiant smile. The shape and color are adapted to the patient’s wishes.
However, the many advantages come at the cost of a loss of natural tooth structure. However, if the tooth has already been repaired several times, the crown can mean more stability and esthetics. In such cases, the crown is the method of choice.
Misaligned teeth can also be corrected to a certain extent with crowns. Crowns that are used in the visible area should nowadays only be made from modern all-ceramic materials.
Veneers are an alternative to crowns. It is used as a less invasive variant for cosmetic corrections. However, the veneer has no stabilizing advantages. The benefits must therefore be carefully weighed up with a dentist.

What is all-ceramic?
All-ceramic means that the stabilizing framework and the veneer are made exclusively of ceramic. A biocompatible zirconium oxide ceramic is used for the framework. This tooth-white material is also more compatible and more stable than conventional metals and plastics.
Our dental technicians use computer-controlled milling machines (CAD/CAM) to manufacture the crowns, which shape the material with high precision.
To make our crowns and bridges even more beautiful, our dental technicians cover them with an additional layer of ceramic to simulate the translucency of healthy teeth in a highly aesthetic way.
These veneering crowns can hardly be distinguished from real teeth.
How much does an all-ceramic dental crown cost at DR. HAGER?
The cost of a dental crown depends on the type of material. If we use complex ceramic mixtures, it will be slightly more expensive compared to crowns made from a single material.
As a rule, prices range between €900 and €1400. This includes all services from both the dentist and the laboratory. At DR. HAGER | Zahnärzte you will receive a fixed price for each treatment.
Thanks to our own dental laboratory, we have optimized all our processes for the production of modern all-ceramic work. We were able to digitize our production using CAD/CAM and automate many steps. Costs have been further reduced by using fewer material variants. For example, we no longer offer metal-containing work.

Frequently asked questions about dental crowns
How long do dental crowns last?
Studies over the last few decades have shown that the average survival rate of single-tooth crowns after 10 years is around 90% and after 30 years around 80%. The patient’s cooperation plays a decisive role in this.
How much does a dental crown cost?
We only use ceramic for our dental crowns. A single tooth crown costs ~1325 euros.
How is a dental crown fitted?
At the placement appointment, the dental crown is firmly anchored to the tooth. A special luting cement is used for this. Your gums will adapt to the new prosthesis over the following weeks. We therefore recommend that you arrange a dental hygiene appointment after approx. 3 months. Among other things, the individual size of the interdental brush that you need to care for your dental crown will then be measured.
How do you care for or clean dental crowns?
Please clean and care for your dental crown as you would any other tooth. Please also use dental floss or interdental brushes for the spaces between the teeth every day. Please remember that although bacteria cannot cause caries on the ceramic, there is still a tooth under the crown.
Why do I need a dental crown and what is a dental crown?
If a tooth has a large or very deep defect under the gum, e.g. due to caries or a fracture, a ceramic dental crown is required. In the case of large defects, there is not enough support for fillings and the tooth would be at risk of fracture. In this case, the dental crown encloses the tooth and gives it new support. In the case of deep defects, it is not possible to ensure drainage, which is essential for the stability of a filling. The cement used to secure the dental crown is insensitive to moisture.
Why do dental crowns come loose?
Our dental crowns are permanently cemented in place. If a crown has become loose or detached, it is important to get to the bottom of the cause. Please contact us immediately for an appointment. Causes could be
- Low residual limb height due to anatomical conditions, i.e. low support.
- The tooth/implant itself may also be loose.
- The cement has been washed out by aggressive saliva (very acidic) and must be replaced.
Among other things, these options are checked during a dental consultation in one of our practices.
Why do I have pain on my dental crowns?
Slight discomfort with hard/warm/cold food or drinks is possible, but should subside from week to week after insertion. Please remember that the nerve inside the tooth must first recover from the treatment. Otherwise, please visit one of our practices. For example, there may have been an interfering contact while eating that still needs to be ground in.
